The Culture of Jaguar Basketball
Our Mission
The Rock Canyon High School Girls Basketball Program strives to develop our players and managers into successful people on and off the court. We hope to accomplish this by focusing on the following traits: Servanthood, Accountability, Humility, Appreciation, Passion, Unity and Resilience. Our players will be pushed to expand their comfort zone by being challenged and learning from each other daily. We want our players to have a great experience in our program and learn to be great people on and off the court.
The Jaguar Way
(our Values)
- Humility- Know who we are; strengths & weaknesses
- Passion- Do not be lukewarm; commit to excellence
- Appreciation- Learn from every circumstance
- Servanthood- Make your teammates better; lead by giving
- Unity-Team first; do not divide our house
- Accountability- What can I do to make this situation better?
- Resilience- Successfully adapt to any situation
The Chase
(Our Goal):
5 on the Floor as one
This is the focus of all of our program's actions, and to maintain this goal for an entire game, and especially an entire season, it requires the focus of more than just the players who are in the game. It requires the focus of all players, and coaches.
Non-Negotiables:
PROGRAM before Individual
DEFENSE before offense
E + R = O
(Event + Reaction = Outcome)
3 Types of reactions:
1. Irrational- Negative focus, born of laziness, resistant to productive discomfort. “Why are we doing this stupid drill?”
- Survival- Desire to take the path of least resistance. Focuses on comfort & convenience, instead of getting better. “This workout sucks. When will it be over? Or even “Just get through it.”
- Purposeful- Embraces productive discomfort & wants to compete to their utmost.
The first 2 reactions are “below the line” meaning they are impulsive, on autopilot, and resistant. The 3rd reaction is “above the line.” It’s intentional, purposeful, and skillful.
How do we consistently make Above-the-line decisions?
- Choose to be Above the Line (it takes intent)
- Eliminate BCD (blaming, complaining & defensiveness)
Program Wide Absolutes:

- Great effort, great attitude
